Biography
Elena Omelchenko is the director of the Center for Youth Studies (National Research University Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg). She is also the scientific director of the Master's program "Modern Social Analysis".
In 1983 she defended PhD thesis on the topic "The problem of the formation of aesthetic relations in a developed socialist society" (Lomonosov Moscow State University).
In 2005 she defended doctoral dissertation on the topic "Identities and cultural practices of Russian youth on the verge of the XX-XXI centuries." (the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences).
She headed the scientific research center "Region" at Ulyanovsk State University, which is engaged in social research of youth.
Elena Omelchenko's research interests include youth culture and subculture, gender aspects of modern youth cultural practices, cultural and stylistic life strategies of youth, gender regimes and physicality on the youth cultural scenes of modernity.
Author of more than 100 scientific papers.
