2025 in the CIS has been declared the year of the 80th anniversary of Victory

On October 14 Astana hosted the next CIS Summit – a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS. The leaders of the countries unanimously supported the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to declare 2025 in the CIS the year of the 80th anniversary of Victory and unity in the fight against Nazism.

It was also decided that Sergey Lebedev will continue to work as head of the CIS Executive Committee.

The next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State will be held on October 13, 2023 in Bishkek. The chairmanship of the Commonwealth in 2023 will be carried out by the Kyrgyz Republic, and the co–chairmanship – by the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.

Following the summit, 10 documents aimed at developing large-scale interstate cooperation will be signed.

The CIS leaders supported a number of initiatives, in particular, the creation of an international organization under the auspices of the CIS to support and promote the Russian language, the announcement of thematic years in the Commonwealth, the implementation in 2024 of the interstate program "Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth" in Russia, the announcement in 2024 of St. Petersburg as the cultural capital of the CIS.
