January 24 – International Day of Education

13.07.2023

In 2018 the UN General Assembly established the International Day of Education to highlight the role of education for peace and development.

This Day calls for supporting political efforts in the field of education and identifying ways to translate commitments and global initiatives into action. It is emphasized that education should be given priority, as it will help accelerate progress towards achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) against the backdrop of growing inequality and the climate crisis.

2023 marks the half-term since the adoption by the United Nations of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development consisting of 17 interrelated goals that will be considered at the SDG summit in September under the topic "Investing in people".

Resolution adopted by the General Assembly on 25 September 2015 "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development"

The document is aimed at strengthening universal peace in conditions of greater freedom. It was in this document that the Goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development were spelled out for the first time. Goal 4 is to "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all."

The topic of inclusive, affordable and high-quality education is also important in the Commonwealth of Independent States. In 2018 the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States issued Recommendations "On improving the quality of education in the CIS Member States". These recommendations are based on a comprehensive consideration of the problems of the quality of education, which implies a convergence of positions to solve a number of tasks.

The document contains recommendations on preschool, general, primary, secondary vocational, higher and additional education in the CIS.
