The holiday was established by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation № 539 of May 27, 1995.

On May 27, 1795 the first state public library of Russia was founded – the Imperial Public Library, now the National Library of Russia.

There are about 40 thousand libraries in modern Russia. Libraries are important cultural centers where various events are held, including for young people.

Our electronic library contains documents that show different forms of interaction between libraries and young people. In the materials you will find successful and interesting examples of youth work:

1) Libraries – for youth: information-analytical bulletin

2) Volunteers and the library: facets of cooperation. Collection of articles

3) Volunteering and Libraries: methodological recommendations

4) Guide for public libraries of Russia on youth services
