In the new material you will find information about Programs aimed at youth participation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the CIS countries.
On September 25, 2015 the United Nations (UN) Member States adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is an action plan aimed at strengthening universal peace. The 2030 Agenda contains 17 universal Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets. Sustainable development is understood as a set of measures directed at meeting human needs while preserving the environment and resources.
Since 2016 the UN has been implementing the Program "Young Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals". This is a group of people from different countries working with the support of the Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth. It should be highlighted that, according to the UN definition, young people are persons aged 15 to 24 years. Young SDG leaders promote the concept of sustainable development and offer their ideas to promote the 2030 Agenda among young people.
In the CIS Member States, as a continuation of the UN initiative "Young Leaders for the SDGs", Programs are being implemented aimed at youth participation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Such projects are called differently. In the Russian Federation and in the Republic of Belarus the Program is called "SDG Youth Ambassadors". In Turkmenistan the wording varies slightly – "Young SDG ambassadors".
In our new information note you will be able to get acquainted with the Programs of Youth Envoys/Ambassadors of the SDGs in the CIS space.
