International Children's Day

Today marks one of the earliest international holidays – Children’s Day. In honor of the significant date we offer a selection of literature from our library on this topic.

The decision to hold it was made in 1925 during the World Conference on Child Welfare in Geneve. However, the holiday has become more widespread later. It was established by the decision of the Congress of the Women’s International Democratic Federation in November 1949 in Paris. This day has been created as a reminder to society about the need to protect the rights of the child.

The rights of children in the Russian Federation are protected by the Federal Law of July 24, 1998 «On basic guarantees of children’s rights in the Russian Federation». It establishes the basic guarantees of the rights and legitimate interests of the child provided by the Constitution of the Russian Federation. 

We encourage you to familiarize yourself with annual reports of UNICEF country offices. These reports show the situation with children’s rights in the CIS Member States. The reports pay special attention to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020:
