On April 19, 2012 the Salihorsk District Executive Committee supported the initiative of the UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF). As part of the implementation of this initiative the Parliament of Children and Students was established in May 2012. In June 2015 Soligorsk became the seventh city in the country to be awarded the title "City Friendly for Children".
