Annotation

The article presents a picture of reading of Russian schoolchildren (1st–9th grades), gives the main characteristics of reading including reading status, traditional and new reading practices, age and gender characteristics, preferences and favourite authors of the modern younger generation. A comparative analysis of the results of two all-Russian surveys for 2006 and 2013 made it possible to show how quickly the reading of children and adolescents is changing.
