We are starting a new section about our partner departments, which implement the direction "Organization of youth work". Within this section we talk about the history of the department, its specifics at the moment, ongoing projects, and also present publications by tutors. Additionally, we publish interviews with students so that you can learn about the activities of the department firsthand. We hope that this may be useful for some of you when choosing an educational trajectory.
The first post in this series is dedicated to the Department of History, Theory and Practice of Social Communications at Udmurt State University.
The department is part of the Institute of Social Communications. It acquired its current name in 2015, but the date of foundation is considered to be 1994.
The department implements three educational programs:
• "Organization of youth work" (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree)
• "Advertising and Public Relations" (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree)
• "Media Communications" (Master's degree)
The principle of combining deep fundamental training and the development of a system of practical knowledge and skills is being used. This approach ensures high competitiveness of graduates both in Udmurtia and in other regions.
Leading specialists and practitioners of the Agency for Youth Policy of the Udmurt Republic, youth centers, youth public organizations, and enterprises act as teachers in a number of disciplines.
We offer you to get acquainted with the publications of the Institute of Social Communications here.
Since 2012 the department has been conducting a career-oriented educational project "Runway". Within the framework of it meetings are organized with specialists in the field of youth policy, among whom graduates of the institute are invited.
Students talk about life at the department:
Sabina Shakhtarina, 1st year Bachelor's degree:
About the usefulness of the studied disciplines: "In fact all the subjects are useful because they allow you to develop skills in different fields and, most importantly, increase competence. We have completed quite a few subjects (it’s only the second semester of the first year). But I want to highlight some of the disciplines that I liked the most: the formation of a tolerant consciousness among young people, state youth policy, economic culture, entrepreneurship and financial literacy, and business communication in Russian."
Valeria Zhukova, 2nd year of Master's degree:
On the relationship between work and study activities: "Study and work are closely interconnected. As part of the preparation of my Master's dissertation, I am working on a project on the topic "Organization of project management in the field of youth policy" (using the example of the Izhevsk City Municipality), which is related to project activities carried out by the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the Izhevsk City Administration."
