At the beginning of the article three stages in the development of the sociology of childhood are presented. In the first childhood is considered as a preparatory stage, the child’s potential and his future benefit to society are assessed. In the second childhood is considered as a preparatory stage for a "full" adult life. In the third a child is considered as an active member of society. Then the process of institutionalization of the sociology of childhood in Russia, the focus of research interest and development prospects are covered.
